Dads are notoriously difficult to shop for. But, who wants to continually give the boring gifts of ties, tools, and tees?
In honor of Father’s Day, we’re recognizing a certain kind of guy. You know the type. As soon as a new gadget, tool, or product is released, “that guy” is quick to buy it. He already seems to have everything he needs.
Plus, in addition to “that guy,” there are the dads in general. Typically, dads and most men are not easy to shop for. What do they need? What do they want? As Father’s Day—a holiday designed just for men—approaches, those who are shopping for these men tend to panic a bit. What to buy?
After analyzing and agonizing, we realize, “Oh yeah… There are always ties, tools, and tees (that we’ve been giving every year). Oh, and truly boring gift cards, too.” Sigh. We’re all guilty of it. And, so we end up giving the same gifts, year after year, for the dads and guys who seem to have everything.
According to the National Retail Federation, 47% of consumers plan to give a “special outing” gift for Father’s Day, items like concert tickets, sporting events, or dinner. In other words, almost half of consumers plan to give dad the gift of an experience this year. Hooray!
Think of treating him to dinner at his favorite restaurant or taking Dad to see his favorite artist perform or team play. A one-time, exciting night out like this is a true experience and an excellent gift.
You could also take the gift of experience one step further. If you have the money to splurge, you could buy Dad a series of events or multiple nights out. Or, you could go all out and buy Dad a vacation package. Wouldn’t that be an amazing gift? But, how much will that cost, and how much can you afford to spend?
Another idea would be to give Dad a more affordable multi-day present, or a gift that lasts for days. Think: a wine or fruit of the month club or a multi-day gift package. And, depending on how adventurous or patient Dad is, you could even put together some sort of scavenger hunt, which could be as elaborate or as simple as you or he desires. At each stop along the hunt there could be a gift awaiting him. Or, you could simply write little notes to your dad explaining how incredible he is; or leave pictures at each point that are relevant to you and him. Although dads and guys who have everything are seemingly difficult to shop for, there are countless experience-based gifts to give. Just remember that experiences create memories, and memories are priceless.
